Responsibilities

Athletic Trainers find meaning working directly with our patients to provide patient care both in the physician clinic and operating room. Entry level opportunities are available and thorough training is provided!

  • Opportunity to assist with surgery and become a certified Orthopedic Technologist through the National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists Inc
  • Under general supervision of a physician or physician assistant, oversee and implement the prevention, assessment, management, treatment, rehabilitation and counseling of athletic injuries and conditions affecting athletes and patients within scope of practice.
  • Review, obtain and order diagnostic studies under the direction of the physician.
  • Obtain a thorough patient history including details of injury, past medical/surgical history, allergy verification, medication reconciliation.
  • Perform an appropriate physical examination to include but not limited to: strength and/or manual muscle testing, range of motion testing, sensation testing, palpation, functional testing, and special tests.
  • Construct and provide rehabilitation education to patients including range of motion, stretching, strengthening, posture and body mechanics.
  • Independently provide continual education to patients and family.
  • Assist physicians with in-office procedures by obtaining patient consents, prepping patient, and assisting with procedure.
  • Generate orders for advanced imaging, physician referrals and physical therapy referrals.
  • Remove post-operative dressing, sutures, and staples while providing additional aseptic wound care.
  • Remove and apply upper and lower extremity splints/casts.
  • Properly measure, fit and educate the use of durable medical equipment, in addition to gait training and use of assistive devices.
  • Triage patient messages including general/surgical questions, medication requests, prior-authorizations, and post-operative phone calls.
  • Coordinate or directly perform the scheduling/rescheduling of appointments, consultations, testing and procedures.
  • Obtain accurate patient vitals including height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure.
  • Complete all required documentation of patient care in accordance with the OSUWMC standards and guidelines.
  • Collect and process point of care tests, venipuncture and other lab specimens.

Qualifications

Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers (Athletic Training Certification -ATC.) and Licensure by the State of Ohio Occupational, Physical Therapy and Athletic Training Board.   

  • Previous experience working with athletic populations preferred but not required.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Analytical ability and critical thinking to gather and interpret data and develop, recommend, and implement solutions
  • Ability to maintain and seek new knowledge related to evidenced-based practice, patient care issues, quality improvement, cost reduction, and current policies, procedures, and protocols.

 

Pay Range

USD $23.37 - USD $35.06 /Hr.
