Responsibilities

Orthopedic Assistant:

  • Obtains and records patient vital signs, and medical history, and assesses reasons for patient visits.
  • Records, reports, and documents observed symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the patients' conditions in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Within scope of practice, performs tasks related to medication administration. Assists in quality control efforts for medications, supplies, etc. including but not limited to medication refrigeration.
  • Completes point of care testing (POCT) as ordered by the provider.
  • Provides basic patient care and treatments, such as dressing wounds, suture removal, phlebotomy, venipuncture, injections, EKG, vitals, etc based on job level.
  • Sets up equipment and prepares exam rooms for patient visits.
  • Maintains patient areas and working spaces in a clean, neat and orderly manner. Responsible for cleaning and turning over rooms as directed. Sterilizes equipment, instruments and medical areas using germicides, sterilizer, or autoclave as directed.
  • Monitors use of supplies/medications, restocks as necessary, and communicates to assigned personnel when supplies need to be ordered.
  • Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
  • Assists providers with examinations, treatments, special tests, and procedures. May provide ‘after visit summary’ and other related communication to the patient, which could include patient requests for RX refills and care related documents.
  • Assists with check-in/-out functions, scheduling, patient referrals and follow-ups, and other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Must successfully complete Ambulatory Skills Orientation upon hire and annually thereafter. Works with clinical preceptor to enhance training and improve any skill deficiency.
  • Will maintain compliance with required dress code in order provide high quality of care and service.
  • Travel may be required to accommodate staffing levels at other clinical facilities.
  • Attendance, promptness, professionalism, attention to detail, professional collaboration with all members of the care team, and politeness to customers, vendors, and patients.
  • Remove and apply upper and lower extremity splints/casts.
  • Medication compounding.
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

 

Orthopedic Assistant:

  • A diploma from a Medical Assisting Program or a minimum of 1 year of medical assisting experience or an equivalent combination of medical assisting experience and education.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
  • Demonstrative effectiveness in conveying information both in writing and verbally
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations
  • Successful completion of casting and splinting training and pharmacy compounding training within 120 days of employment.

  

Preferences:  Current BLS Certification.  Experience with EMR.  Medical Assistant Certification.

 

 

Pay Range

USD $39,087.19 - USD $58,630.88 /Yr.
