Responsibilities

Purpose: The purpose of this internship is to provide undergraduate students with exposure to clinical social work within the Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) division. Under the supervision of licensed social workers, interns will have the opportunity to observe patient interactions, participate in case discussions, and assist with resource navigation.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in patient resource coordination, including Medicaid, WIC, housing, and mental health services.
  • Conduct initial screenings for social determinants of health and document findings in PRAF.
  • Fax and organize medical records to ensure seamless communication with referring providers.
  • Support case preparation by gathering relevant medical and social information.
  • Obtain and verify patient documentation for program eligibility.
  • Assist with projects, including creating patient education materials.
  • Follow up with patients regarding referrals and resource connections.
  • Other duties as required to support social work initiatives.
  • Attendance, promptness, professionalism, the ability to pay attention to detail, cooperativeness with co-workers and supervisors, and politeness to customers, vendors, and patients

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Analytical ability and critical thinking to gather and interpret data and develop, recommend, and implement solutions.
  • Ability to maintain and seek new knowledge related to evidenced-based practice, patient care issues, quality improvement, cost reduction, and current policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Stays current with knowledge and technical skills within Histology and Pathology.
  • Demonstrates computer skills to perform job functions.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Enrolled in a degree-granting program at The Ohio State University
  • Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check and drug screen.

Preferences:

  • Interest in social work, public health, patient advocacy, or healthcare administration.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Pay Range

USD $14.50 - USD $14.50 /Hr.
