Ohio State University Physicians is seeking a strategic, relationship‑driven Director of Clinical Operations to lead and elevate the clinical and operational performance of our Ophthalmology department. Purpose: Reporting to the Department Administrator, assists with the global administration of the outpatient clinics through the management, coordination, and/or assessment of integrated clinic operations. Assesses and supports clinical efficiencies and enhancements, operational systems, contingency staffing, staff training, strategic operational performance, and patient experience. Participates in strategic and operational decision making as a member of the management team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs assessments of outpatient clinical operations and makes recommendations for operational enhancements and clinical efficiencies.
Manages assigned clinical management and their teams; oversees the onboarding process for new managers in ambulatory clinics; partners and delivers professional and technical development initiatives and programs; acts as a key clinical and process resource to managers, advising on best practices and answering operational questions; develops and enhances systems for onboarding clinic and operations staff to assure clinical competence and sharing of basic operational information; working in collaboration with the HR department
Provides day to day operational management support in a clinic in the absence of a manager (open positions, leaves of absence).
Represents the LLC at various policy-making and/or operating committees; may act on behalf of the Administrator on operational issues as appropriate.
Assists in and provides input for determining strategic objectives, program and project development related to the outpatient clinics.
Works in collaboration with Administrator and clinic management to develop, communicate and administer written policies, procedures, and protocols governing all aspects of services rendered in clinics including performance of staff, risk management, utilization and productivity and competency based performance measures.
Conducts benchmarking activities to assist managers with the evaluation of staff and processes
Develops and supports improvement efforts designed to provide optimal patient experience.
Acts as a liaison between hospital/OSUP departments and LLC to facilitate standard practices for respective ambulatory clinics related to safe and effective operations in the areas of: IT; ED&R; Customer Service; QA; Laboratory; Epidemiology; Pharmacy; and Compliance
Develops agenda and leads manager meetings.
Point person on new technology deployed within the clinics (clinical and administrative systems)
Directs contingency staffing for clinics where assigned.
Where directed, manages the ordering of supplies and insuring availability of supplies and equipment; interviewing/negotiating with vendors on pricing.
Collaborates with clinic managers to ensure that all clinical staff performs procedures in accordance with OSUP and OSU standards.
Additional Duties:
Required to complete all assigned training and competency requirements at hire and on an ongoing basis to maintain compliance with job-specific, regulatory, and organizational standards, including mandated topics such as privacy and workplace conduct. Partners with a manager or preceptor to address development needs and close skill gaps.
Will maintain compliance with required dress code in to order provide high quality of care and service.
Travel may be required to accommodate staffing levels at other clinical facilities.
Attendance, promptness, professionalism, attention to detail, professional collaboration with all members of the care team, and politeness to customers, vendors, and patients.
Engages in regular communication with supervisor(s) to review performance, receive constructive feedback, and align on goals and priorities. Actively seeks guidance and support when needed to ensure role expectations are met.
